Wastewater Line Spills 100,000 Gallons In Southeast Austin Creek

Austin Water officials are warning people to stay out of a Southeast Austin creek after a wastewater line spilled 100,000 gallons into it Tuesday night.

It spill was reported at around 7 p.m. near the 6000 block of Wagon Bend Road, just east of I-35 and south of Stassney Lane. Officials say it entered a nearby tributary of Williamson Creek

Austin Water says crews have the spill under control and are currently working on repairs.

Public drinking water is not in danger, but officials are urging area residents and their pets to avoid Williamson Creek and its nearby tributaries.

Austin water says tree roots growing through the manhole cover and wastewater line caused the spill.
