Arrest In Elderly Theft Made; Other Austin Victims Possible
Austin police think a house painter may have been ripping off elderly people for years.
A grand jury indicted Enrique Mojica, 57, on the charge of theft from elderly, a third degree felony.
In 2009, investigators say the 84-year-old victim hired Mojica to paint his house and gave him $1,800 in the form of checks for materials to paint the house. The work was never completed and Mojica never returned the money, police say.
After three years, police caught him on Jan. 25. They say he faces additional charges.
Detectives found Mojica because he was a suspect in a new investigation where the elderly victim was able to provide a license plate number to detectives. He is also using the alias Joe Marin.
Detectives believe there may be other elderly victims. If you think you are a victim, please make a police report by calling 3-1-1 or 512-974-5750.
