Teen Dies From North Austin Car Crash Injuries

Police say a 15-year-old boy died Monday from injuries he sustained in a car crash earlier this month in North Austin.

The single-vehicle crash happened at around 4 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10.

Investigators say the teen, Erik Alexander Gomez, was driving a 2000 Mazda MPV minivan eastbound on Beaver Street at a high rate of speed between North Lamar Boulevard and I-35 when it collided with a tree and a light pole at the Georgian Drive intersection.

The teen was transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge with life threatening injuries. He succumbed to his injuries on Monday. His identity has not been released.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at 512-974-8164.

This is Austin's 7th fatal traffic crash and the 8th traffic fatality of 2013. At this time in 2012, there were five traffic fatalities.
