Father, Son Killed In East Austin Motorcycle Crash


Police say the man and 13-year-old boy that died after their motorcycle hit a parked car in an East Austin neighborhood on Tuesday were father and son.

The victims were not wearing helmets in the crash.

It happened at around 5:20 p.m. in the 1100 block of Berger Street, a residential neighborhood between Airport Boulevard and 12th Street on the east side of Springdale Road.

Police say the father, identified as 31-year-old Rodney Adam Carr Sr., was dead at the scene. The boy, identified as Rodney Adam Carr Jr., was transported to Dell Children's Medical Center, where he died.

The motorcycle did not belong to Carr and he did not have a license to operate the motorcycle, according to police.

This was Austin's 1st and 2nd traffic fatalities of 2013.

At the time of the incident Austin police had varying information on the age of the child. On Wednesday, policed confirmed his age as 13.
