Williamson County Crews Preparing For Strong Storms

Williamson County officials are bracing for heavy rains as a large winter storm moves into Central Texas overnight.

Chisholm Trail Road, near memorial park, is no stranger to flooding. Signs are already up ready to close the road in case the rains get too bad.

The creek that runs along the road is very low. But members of the swift water rescue team say conditions can change very quickly and they've spent the day getting their boats ready for any emergency water rescues.

"Around here we are prone to flash flooding, so water that may be an inch now, in two or three minutes may be six inches to a foot and a half. You just don't know. It can rise that quickly," says lt. James David with the Williamson County Sheriff's Department.

You know the saying -- turn around, don't drown. But you might not know that if you decided to take the chance and drive through a road that's flooded, and you have someone in the passenger's seat, you could face criminal charges for endangering the life of that rider.
