Austin Swimmers Brave The Cold For New Year's Day Plunge

A New Year's tradition in Austin that some may say is crazy -- but it's definitely entertaining.

The Polar Bear Club made their annual splash Tuesday morning in the Barton Springs Pool.

The annual event began 33 years ago. Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell says it's for good luck and it's a good way to start off the year.

"It's a bigger crowd than we've had here the last few years. I think it shows the enthusiasm folks have for what's ahead here in Austin," Leffingwell said

Luckily for these polar bears, the Barton Springs Pool doesn't get too cold. It hovers at around 68 degrees year-round.
