Exceptions Water Down Proposed Texas Ban On Texting While Driving

There is no shortage of support at the State Capitol for a ban on texting while driving across Texas.  But lawmakers are getting an earful from authorities who would have to enforce the ban.

They point to the numerous exceptions that would make it difficult to enforce and prosecute.

It’s okay to text while driving:
-If the vehicle is stopped
-If you’re entering a name to dial a phone call
-if it’s conjunction with voice-operated technology
-if you’re entering info into a GPS or navigation system
-if you’re communicating with a dispatcher about your job
-if it’s affixed to the vehicle

The legislature will consider at least six different bills to ban texting while driving when they convene next Tuesday.
