Up To 10 Inches Of Snow Forecast For West Texas

(AP) -- Snow has begun to accumulate across West Texas as a winter storm moved across the region.

West Texas west of San Angelo and south of the Midland-Odessa area was under a winter storm warning throughout Thursday. Up to eight inches of snow, with isolated amounts approaching 10 inches, were expected across West Texas as the storm moved across the region.

In the El Paso area, the National Weather Service reported up to 3 inches of snow fell by nightfall Thursday. Portions of at least three roads were closed, as were many local businesses and institutions. About an inch of snow covered most of the Trans-Pecos as nightfall approached, where 4 to 6 inches was expected.

Forecasters say 8 to 10 inches of snow was expected in the mountains.
