Wood Ridge Owners To Face City Of Austin

Holding the owners accountable: eight months after a second-floor balcony collapse and hundreds of code violations, the city is asking the owners of the Wood Ridge Apartments what's being done to fix the problem and help those still living there. On Wednesday night, the Building and Standards Commission will be looking to hear from the owner or his representative on those issues.

This update stems from May 2012 when a second floor balcony of one of the buildings collapsed. Code compliance later found more than 700 violations at 15 buildings in the complex. Since late August, they've been looking at fines of $15,000 per week until they make the repairs. In the past, the owner has said he doesn't have the money to do so.

In October 2012, tenants sued the owner for forcing them to live in unhealthy and unsafe conditions.

The Building and Standards Commission meeting is set to start at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, located at 301 West 2nd St.
