Teen That Died Under Suspicious Circumstances In Southeast Austin Identified


Police have identified the 13-year-old girl that died after arriving at a Southeast Austin home unresponsive from a night out.

Investigators say that on Tuesday, Jan. 1, at about 11:30 a.m., officers responded to a check welfare call at 2409 Lakehurst Drive, where Sophia Nicole Martinez was found unresponsive.

She was transported to Dell Children’s Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased.  There were no obvious signs of trauma to her body, according to police.

The Travis County Medical Examiner performed an autopsy, but a final ruling is pending toxicology results. 

Detectives say the investigation is progressing quickly, and they believe a clear understanding of what caused the girl’s death will be known within the next few days.
