Austin Police Searching For Answers In Teen's Death

Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 13-year-old girl in Southeast Austin.

According to the Austin Police Department, the teen was dropped off at a friend’s home in the 2400 block of Lakehurst Drive around 11 a.m.

Neighbors tell us a Hispanic male driving a black car dropped off the victim and her friend.

Rosie Taylor lives across the street and saw everything when she looked out her window.

“I just heard the little girl say help, help,” said Taylor.

She says the girls’ friend came running out along with his mom.

“The mom pulled her in the living room and laid her on the floor and her lips were purple and she didn’t look like she was breathing. That’s when they dialed 911,” she said.

CPR was conducted on the girl after arriving at the home unresponsive. Officials say she was transported to Dell Children’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Police tell us there were no obvious signs of trauma.

Less than a block away from the scene, officials stopped a black car and handcuffed two males. Detectives are investigating, but have not said if this is related.

As police continue to piece together the puzzle, we’re learning the girls were at the residence the night before. Oscar Luna who lives there says the girls wished him happy New Year around 10 p.m. Monday.

“I couldn’t believe it because I had just seen her a few hours ago,” Luna said.

He is still shocked and so are neighbors.

“My daughter is 13. I thought how could that happen. It could have easily been my child,” said one man.

Additional details are currently unavailable. As more information becomes available from officials, updates will be made.
