Police Take In One After Overnight SWAT Call

An overnight SWAT call in south Austin ends with one suspect in custody.

Austin Police responded to a shots fired call at 2703 South Congress Avenue just after 10:30 p.m. Monday. Police say when they arrived at the apartment complex, the Heights on Congress, they were unable to get the person inside to answer the door.

SWAT was call in and families in nearby apartments were evacuated as a precaution. Police also closed portions of south Congress.

Police say just before 2 a.m. Tuesday, officers fired tear gas into the apartment and the woman inside answered the phone. Negotiators were then able to convince the woman to come to the door and took her into custody.

According to police, they do not believe anyone else was inside the apartment.

The incident remains under investigation.
