Hit & Run In South Austin Leaves Pedestrian Dead
Police Investigating Deadly South Austin Hit-and-Run
On Friday morning, the southbound service road of I-35 between William Cannon and Slaughter was shut down for nearly two hours as Austin police investigated a deadly hit-and-run.
Officers say at 3:49 a.m., a passerby called 911 to report a man lying along the side of the service road just south of the entrance of the Ladera Apartments. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 4:04 a.m. Officers say it appears the victim, who they only describe as a black male, was struck by a vehicle. Police do not know if the man lived at the apartment complex.
Police say they have no vehicle description. Previously, dispatch had reported they were looking for a black vehicle with a busted out headlight, though officers later said a vehicle matching that description was stopped in Hays County and was not related to the accident.
Detectives from APD’s Vehicular Homicide Unit are investigating. Police are asking any witnesses or anyone with any information about the accident to contact them.
