Houston Waiter Amazed At Reaction To His Actions For A Special Needs Child

A Houston-area waiter who got a lot of attention for standing up for a boy with special needs is parlaying that spotlight into something good for special needs children.

The story that's gone viral has changed his life and the lives of others.

Laurenzo's Restaurant is popular and so is one of its waiters.  Fans call from all over.

"Germany, Australia, Croatia. Where is Croatia?  People come in to take a picture with me I'm thinking I didn't do anything we shouldn't already be doing," Michael Garcia said.

Garcia has received hundreds of cards, letters, drawings even gifts for him and a little boy named Milo. All this, after a customer's snarky comment about the 5-year-old with Down's Syndrome.

Three weeks ago, Milo and his parents were at the restaurant. Milo was talking about his birthday party. Another family in the next booth moved to the back of the restaurant.

"It was the father who made the comment special needs children need to be special somewhere else.  I told him, "Sir, I won't be able to serve you," Garcia said.

Another server told the mother what happened.  She posted it on Facebook.

"Next thing you know there was 30,000 views," Kim Castillo said.

Garcia could have lost his job. Legendary Houston Astro Craig Biggio eats at Laurenzo's  and heard about what happened.

"Certain things at times that are bigger than that. I think this is one of those things," Biggio said.

Folks have been sending money, gift cards and leaving extra big tips.
"It's all going to go to the children. I couldn't keep one penny of it. It wouldn't be right," Garcia said. "I've really taken a look at myself and it's really changed me"
