Texas Sex Offenders Can Register Even With No Address

It's supposed to be easy to track down a convicted sex offender's address online, but what if that address is just a cross street or intersection?

In Texas sex offenders can register even with no address. They have to provide law enforcement a detailed description of the location where they plan to stay, and report to police every 30 days.

Outside the ARCH in Downtown Austin, dozens are registered to that block, but those registered around the corner are nowhere to be found.

We spoke with several registered sex offenders in different neighborhoods, we've hidden their identities, but each had the same thought. "Each and every one that has to register should show their address, because it's unfair to me that I have to show my address," one said.

The Austin Police Department sex offender unit runs daily unannounced checks, more than 2,000 compliance checks a year, saying even though law allows them to register at intersections they're not going to let them go off the grid.
