New Program Could Let You Breeze Through Austin's Airport Lines
A new program at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport could help cut down on long lines. ABIA is now the latest airport to use the TSA pre-check program.
TSA administrator John Pistole says the pre-check will cut down on your wait at security screening. "That pre-screening then allows us to have a dedicated lane. And they are able to leave their shoes on, their belt on, a light jacket on and also keep their liquids, aerosol gels and lap top in their carry-on bag," he says.
It's a major difference from the strict screenings implemented after 9-11. But is it safe? Pistole says yes, "It is actually is at least as good if not better security because we are doing pre-screening of people before they get to the airport, based on what they share with us."
He says it also helps free up officers and helps them be more efficient in terms of time and energy.
Other TSA pre-check locations include Los Angeles and Dallas-Fort Worth.
