Longhorn Football Player Cayleb Jones Charged With Assault

A University of Texas football player is accused of assaulting a UT tennis player after an encounter with a UT volleyball player.

Wide Receiver Cayleb Jones, 19, is charged with aggravated assault, a 2nd degree felony.

On Feb. 22, Jones punched Joseph (Joey) Swayland at Club Aquarium near Sixth and Trinity Street, according to an arrest affidavit.

Jones saw Swayland talking to his former girlfriend at the club, UT volleyball player Katherine (Khat) Bell.  The affidavit says Bell told police their relationship had ended badly and Jones was very jealous.

The punch fractured Swayland's jaw.

UT Head Football Coach Mack Brown has suspended Jones from the team.
