AIDS Activists Urge Expansion Of Medicaid In Texas

Aids activists fired a new salvo on Monday in efforts to convince Texas to expand Medicaid to the full extent allowed by the Affordable Care Act or "Obamacare."

At the state capitol, researchers from Harvard Law School's Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation urged that Texans now helped by the state's Aids Drug Assistance Program be able to enroll in Medicaid.

Senior Fellow Katherine L. Record says, "If we can diagnose patients on time and get them into treatment, we will be spending -- over the course of the country -- billions and billions of dollars less on this epidemic."

Governor Perry has said he is firmly against expanding Medicaid in Texas. Instead, he would like to see federal Medicaid block grants given to the states with wide latitude on how they use the funding.
