Fallen Austin Officer Honored At Capitol
The Texas Legislature passed a resolution in the House Wednesday afternoon honoring the most recent Austin police officer to be killed in the line of duty.
Senior Officer Jaime Padron responded to a disturbance call by himself at a Wal-Mart in the middle of the night last April.
Witnesses say he tussled with the suspect, Brandon Daniel, on the ground. That's when police say Daniel shot Officer Padron in the neck.
The former marine and long-time police officer was buried in San Angelo where he grew up.
Travis County prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in Daniel's upcoming trial.
