Planned Parenthood, Supporters Rally For Better Women's Health Care At Capitol
Hundreds of people rallied at the Texas Capitol this morning against what Planned Parenthood calls an attack on women's health.
During the 2011 Legislative session, lawmakers prohibited Planned Parenthood from the state's Women's Health Program because it also provides abortions. No state money is used for abortions.
"That doesn't make any sense to me at all," said Saphia Alami, of Austin. "I feel like people should be able to get screenings for whatever they need and the government should fund that."
That ban is still wrapped up in the courts.
Those who attended the rally also protested major cuts made to the state's family planning funds also during the 2011 Legislative session.
