Say What? Ted Cruz: "Don't Fund Obamacare"
Congress is facing a March 27 deadline to finalize a budget for the rest of the year or face a possible government shutdown. Republicans are suggesting places to cut, including Texas U.S. Senator Ted Cruz who is suggesting withholding funding for the Affordable Care Act or "Obamacare" until the economy improves.
What do Central Texans think of this idea? Here's a sampling:
Melissa Sconyers: "I was actually pretty surprised how affordable it was for me to get insurance even though I had to have the 50 percent up-rate premium increase because of my preexisting condition. I still thought it was way more affordable than it was going to be given all the talk that everybody says with healthcare not being affordable." Melissa was an early adopter of Twitter, so much so that her handle is simply @Melissa.
Ruth Kidwell: I think we need to take it back! Get rid of it! It's terrible. It's hurting the employers terribly. The main thing is I really think it's going to hurt our economy."
David Davis: "Personally, our medical costs are too high but there's other ways of doing it instead of doing it this way. Our medical system is based more on managing health and not preventing. We manage disease and don't' prevent disease. So that's part of the picture I think."
