Man Shot By Bastrop County Deputies Identified


The Bastrop County Sheriff's Office has identified the deputies and the man shot by them after responding to a 911 call Wednesday afternoon.

The man the deputies shot has been identified as 70-year-old Jose Cantu.

The deputies were responding to a 911 at a home located at 121 Stony Mont Drive, off of C.R. 110 in Del Valle.

The Sheriff's Office says that when they arrived to investigate a domestic disturbance Cantu was holding a gun, which he pointed toward the deputies – and that's when they shot him.

Deputy Mark Garcia (pictured left) and investigator Stephen Broderick (pictured right) are on administrative leave while the Texas Rangers investigate.

Cantu is in the hospital in critical condition. The officers were not injured.
