Austin Police Cruiser, SUV Collide In South Austin

An Austin Police officer was involved in a traffic crash just before 11 p.m. Sunday night.

The crash happened near the intersection of William Cannon and I-35.

According to police, the officer was responding to a call with lights and sirens on. Police say an SUV hit the APD cruiser on the passenger side as the officer was driving through the intersection. Officials also believe a third vehicle involved may have been stopped at the intersection when the SUV and officer crashed.

A child in the SUV was transported to Dell Children's Medical Center to be examined as a precaution. The APD officer was treated an area hospital and released.

The crash remains under investigation. There is no word on what or if any charges will be filed.
