Firefighters Battle Stubborn Waco-Area Wildfire

Firefighters continue to battle a stubborn wildfire that has burned 405 acres 35 miles southwest of Waco and driven people from their homes.

Texas A&M Forest Service spokesman Patrick Allen said Wednesday afternoon bulldozers have established a fire line around 60 percent of the Iron Bridge Park fire along Belton Lake, near Fort Hood.

Allen says nine homes have been saved from flames over the course of the four-day fire. No injuries have been reported and residents have been allowed to return to their homes.

Officials previously said the fire was contained but winds gusting up to 40 mph Tuesday fanned the flames.

Allen says firefighters have made progress Wednesday as winds have calmed.

The fire started Sunday with a campfire.
